of Dan Schnabel better known as republican candidate for county treasurer: for Treasurer The Ledger would not stultify itself by questioning either the char tr ability of the Democratic candidate for County Treasurer who is a competent and affable gentleman but it does insist the Repub licans have no need to go outside their party columns to obtain the services of a man well qualified to administer the affairs of that office Dan Schnabel is a successful business man He has succeeded en tirely by his own efforts without pull or influence being exerted in his hehalf With all his etrenous buaineM activities Mr Schnabel has never neglected the social amenities and his affability good humor and kindliness of spirit have won him the sobriquet of "Uncle by which he is known to a host of friends A vote for "Uncle Dan" will be a vote for capable and conscientious administration of the office of County Treasurer Johnstown Ledger There is no reason for Republicans to be tempted to cast votes for the Democratic candidate for County Treasurer Dian Schnabel the Republican nominee possesses every qualifica tion demanded for this Important office He has business experience with a record for fairness honesty and progressive spirit He has an unlimited capacity for hard work His whole life has been one of en ergy and productive industry He is the equal in every way of his The Arbitration Decision After a careful study of the deci sion of the arbitration court and with out expressing an opinion on its merits either way I have come to the conclusion that we the men in No By drastic measures? No The bottom is out of the coal trade Markets are glutted Buyers are indifferent If we cannot create or maintain a high standard of material the orders will go somewhere else and we can go idle Right Glo Journal: As your valu able paper is always open to intel lectual talks or dis ussiops of some thing beneficial to labor I wish to re fer to the eloquent and instructive talk given in the Miners' Hall last Wednesday evening to the miners par ticularly and their wives as to why they should vote and work for the labor party ticket at the coming elec tion The Rev Mr uller of Altoona formerly of Cresson who gave the talk is a man of large human sym pathy for the producing classes He carries the facts with him and strikes home to the working class in the most convincing manner Mr uller spoke of tile progress made by the labor party in England during the past forty years mention ing the compensation laws old age pension laws graded unemployment laws in which at least one half of the standard wage of any industry is paid to the army of unemployed thus pro tecting the workers and their families against industrial depression and star vation This progressive legislation was put through by the labor party Rev Mr uller asks you not to sell yourselves for either poison liquor or money to the agents of those po litical loaders of the pari well known throughout their political career for their hostility to organized labor He cites facts and figures to prove his arguments are true He further tells how they the worker as one that thinks little about the best men they should support for public office' Well it is never too late to do good for evil A VOTER Payroll Snatchers Made Haul At Ashville Two gunmen held up Supt Pratt of the Dexter Carpenter Coal Co on a lonely road near Ashville riday afternoon and robbed him of the semi monthly payroll of the mine amounting to over $(1000 Mr Pratt was bringing the money from Altoona to pay the men at the mine The yeggs jumped on the runnning boards of his ear and compelled him and Mrs Pratt to get out then drove away with the car and money The car was found deserted about two miles away shortly after but no trace of the robbers was found It is believed that they had another car in waiting in which they escaped TWELVE BILLION CALLS The American people make twelve billion calls a year on the telephones of the Bell
